Just in time for St. Patrick’s day, the Planet Ant Blackbox Theater premiers Back to McFuture, a whimsical, time-traveling play that begins when estranged cousins, Molly, played by Katie McGraw and Nora, played by Maggie O’Reilly realize their recently-deceased Uncle’s whiskey does more than just gets ‘em langered. The ladies find themselves trapped in the past, having to navigate their way back home, just like their ancestors did…well, kind of…
Paying homage to their own family backgrounds, McFuture is loaded with hilarious Irish references. “Katie and I are both very Irish and come from big Catholic families and we just really wanted to write a show that showcases that but also showcased our silly sense of adventure” O’Reilly added. “We also pull some details from our actual families.”
The writing duo is joined by fellow actor Tom Novik, who plays a host of hilarious characters. “We are so very lucky to have Tom Novik as part of the cast and he helps bring so much to his roles as all of the characters we meet along the way.” Lamented O’Reilly “And we were beyond thrilled when our good buddy and fellow Reclassify Plutonian, Mitch Socia signed on to be the director. If there’s anybody who knows Katie and I and our sense of humor, it’s Mitch.”
The two of them both have very high praises for their Supervising Director, Mike McGettigan. “Mike has been a guiding force throughout the process. We really trust his opinion and value his feedback, so we were really excited that he wanted to work with us. The thing I love most about working with Mike is that he really respects our vision for the show. He never tried to mold it into his show, he let us take the lead and really shape it into our own little baby.” added Katie McGraw.
Back to McFuture only runs for two weekends, opening Friday, February 23rd and runs through Saturday, March 3rd. Tickets are 10$ and shows start at 10:00 pm, (Friday’s and Saturdays only).
